Set up MiniNews on Wear OS and read your first summary

Updated October 2026 · Checked against MiniNews 2.3

MiniNews puts short news summaries on your watch. Setup takes a few minutes: install it on the watch, choose what you want to read, and open your first story. You do not need to create an account.

1. Install MiniNews on your watch

An app you install on your phone does not always appear on your watch by itself, so make sure the watch gets its own copy.

Google Play only offers the app to watches it supports, so if your watch is listed there, you are good to go. The watch app runs on its own; the phone app is optional but lets you open full articles on a bigger screen.

2. Open the app

Open MiniNews from your watch's app list. Your news feed loads straight away, with no sign-in. The watch needs an internet connection, through your phone, Wi-Fi or mobile data.

3. Choose your topics

Open Settings in MiniNews and tap Choose Topics. Tick the subjects you care about and untick the rest. Start with one or two so your first read is quick; you can change them at any time.

4. Pick your language

In Settings, tap Language and choose the language you want your news in. This changes the news feed, not your watch's system language.

5. Read your first summary

Go back to the feed and scroll through the headlines. Tap one to read its summary. To read the full story from the original publisher, tap Open on Phone and the article opens on your paired Android phone.

Free and Premium

Reading summaries is free, with a limited number of stories in each feed. Premium is an optional monthly subscription that adds more stories and the daily audio summary. You subscribe inside the app through Google Play, which shows the current price and terms for your country before you confirm. You never need to upgrade to finish setup.
